Gain experience

You should have experience in the related field in order to become a certified CSWIP 3.1 welding inspector. In case you don’t have experience, look for a job in welding or welding inspection. It can be easier for you if you have a mechanical engineering background.

There are 3 criteria of experience that are accepted by SCWIP to qualify for the CSWIP 3.1 exam so you should have any one of the following:

1.       A minimum 3 years of welding experience related to duties as well as responsibilities of the area such as:
Post-weld visual inspection, parent metal identification, welding consumable identification, pre-weld inspection, and in-process welding surveillance.
Moreover, you will learn supervision of the aforementioned activities, welding procedures, witnessing of welder and procedure approval test, welder approval, post-weld heat treatment, and creation of reports.

2.       If you hold CSWIP 3.0 Visual Welding Inspection Certification, you can have a minimum of 2 years of experience.

3.       If you hold CSWIP Welding Instructor or Welding Foreman or Supervisor, you can have a minimum of 1 year of experience.

Choose your training and exam center

CSWIP 3.1 training and examination centers are provided by international institutions or local institutions and you can choose the one which is nearest to you.

Register for the course and exam

First of all visit the TWI website to check the date of the course, exam, and fees. Fill in your country name and date of the training. Now, click on the more info link of your desired date and location. Click on the Course Enrollment Form on the bottom left after that, the form will be downloaded. Fill out the form and then attach your resume with it. Make payment to TWI. After that, post the form to the address provided.

Keep in mind that CSWIP 3.1 course is vital before the examination.

Attend the course

In the course, you will get to know about the duties and responsibilities of a welding inspector. You also get to know about visual inspection, the testing of the parent metal and welds, along with destructive and non-destructive test techniques.

Attend the examination

To pass, you need to score 70% in each section.

In order to attempt the exam, you will need two passport-size photographs with your signature on the back side of both. Moreover, keep an eye test certificate showing near vision and color test as well as verification enrollment.

If you pass the exam TWI will send you 2 copies of the certificates along with an identity card to you or your sponsor. The certificate will be valid for 10 years after that, you need to renew the license by giving another exam.
